Each year, the American Music Awards honors the most iconic and influential musical artists in the industry. While we can't wait to see who wins the big awards, we also can't wait to see which showstopping fashion statements the stars will bring to the red carpet. Over the years, the annual event has drawn an eclectic mix of unforgettable styles that range from classic glamour to edgy rock chic to just plain bizarre. Ahem, we're looking at you, Britney and Justin.

This year's attendees include notable fashionistas like Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez and Iggy Azalea, so we're waiting with uncontrollable anticipation to see if their outfits are fierce and fresh, or simply fall flat. Before the show airs on Sunday, Nov. 23, let's travel back in time and reminisce about seven of the best looks from AMAs past that we're still drooling over.

Taylor Swift, 2013

The "Shake It Off" singer wowed when she stepped onto the red carpet last fall wearing this gold Julien MacDonald minidress, proving that she had experienced a fashion evolution. The pop star ditched the usual classic ballgowns, in favor of a sexier, shorter silhouette, and she totally owned it. She paired the stylish frock with matching Jimmy Choo shoes, Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and a Tod's clutch for an uber très chic moment.

Nicole Richie, 2013

At this point, Nicole Richie's name is basically synonymous with amazing style. This gal can do no wrong when it comes to getting dressed. But, the House of Harlow fashion designer absolutely wowed in this white hot Emilio Pucci gown with side and back cutouts. The "Candidly Nicole" reality star accessorized the look perfectly with a fringed clutch from her own line and a chunky gold necklace.

Christina Aguilera, 2013

Let's be honest, Christina Aguilera has made more than a few fashion blunders on the red carpet over the years, but the powerhouse vocalist hit it the right note with this elegant Maria Lucia Hohan dress. The silhouette accentuated her figure, and she made the best decision when she opted for classic hair and makeup to complement the simplicity of the dress. The "Beautiful" crooner completed the look with sparkly Christian Louboutin heels, a Jimmy Choo clutch and Lorraine Schwartz jewels.

Naya Rivera, 2013

2013 was obviously an awesome year for AMAs fashion. "Glee" actress Naya Rivera also made a memorable statement with this revealing Michael Kors gown. The starlet flaunted major cleavage in the super-sexy black dress, and the confidence radiating from her was almost palpable. She knew she looked good, which can sometimes make all the difference between a red carpet hit or miss. Rivera's voluminous curls and understated accessories—Jimmy Choo shoes and gold YSL jewelry—bumped the fierce outfit up just a couple more notches.

Gwen Stefani, 2012

The No Doubt frontwoman has always marched to the beat of her own drummer when it comes to her style choices, and that's one of the things that we love about her. Stefani was the epitome of a true rockstar in this fun, edgy and chic outfit. Unlike many of her peers, the "Hollaback Girl" singer opted for leather leggings instead of a fancy dress. But, she made sure to spice it up with an embellished Balmain jacket layered over a black bra for a hint of sex appeal. D'Orsay pumps and a diamond, pearl and platinum cross Neil Lane necklace pushed this ensemble into superstar territory. Hella good, Gwen.

Selena Gomez, 2011

Selena Gomez stole the show and proved that she was all grown up when she hit the red carpet in this sophisticated and sexy Giorgio Armani satin frock. The former Disney Channel star wasn't afraid to show more than a little skin in the backless design, which also featured a low-cut, halter neckline and a thigh-high slit. Gomez played off the gown's 1920s design and fringe detailing by opting for Old Hollywood-inspired hair. Her retro Judith Leiber clutch added the perfect touch to the classic ensemble.

Katy Perry, 2010

Katy Perry often enjoys taking bold risks with her appearance on the red carpet. Who can forget that blue hair? But, it's always magic when she chooses ultra-feminine, softer styles. This pale pink, embellished Badgley Mischka dress is deliciously beautiful, almost resembling a sweet confection. It is probably one of the pop star's best looks ever as the girly color complements her complexion and raven hair perfectly.
