All empires come to an end. A whopping 2.3 million people tuned in to HBO Sunday night to watch the last episode of "Boardwalk Empire." After five seasons of political corruption, boozey escapades, and ambient fog, the fate of Nucky's empire was finally sealed in the show's last episode.

Devoted fans had mixed feelings about how the finale went down, and what became of Prohibition-era gangster Nucky Thompson, played by the illustrious Steve Buscemi. Twitter's response was a mix of heated opinions and resigned lamentations.
