Paralyzed Man Can Walk After Revolutionary Surgery

Darek Fidyka was paralyzed from the chest down after a knife attack in 2010. After he underwent therapy that transplanted cells from his nasal cavity into his spinal chord, Fidyka can now walk using some support.

This was the first time this transplant treatment was performed and the surgery required collaboration between Polish surgeons and scientists from London.
After regaining feeling in his lower limbs, Fidyka said, “When you can’t feel almost half your body, you are helpless, but when it starts coming back it’s like you were born again.”
