Netflix is making it big in France.

French broadcasters have used VOD (Video On Demand) as a way to build “viewer loyalty,” according to Variety. And now, Netflix will change France’s online platforms.

Netflix entering France will increase competition for content, as seen in shows like “House of Cards.” A similar show called “Marseille” is already set in Southern France.

With Netflix stepping in, one of France’s major commercial broadcasters, M6, and its YouTube channel for French comedy, Canal Plus, may be threatened.

On the upside, France can better monetize creative works concerning web streaming, TV and other entertainment content.

Variety reported the total paid VOD market in France was worth $309 million in 2013 and SVOD (Subscription Video On Demand) was worth $34 million in 2012.
