The county tax assessor may be the most underrated elected official in government. This should not be the case, however, especially in Los Angeles County - the country’s largest county by population. The Los Angeles County Assessor is very important because of the number of people and the amount of property in the county.

The current assessor is John Noguez, who is on leave awaiting trial on corruption. This election will decide who replaces Noguez and who will be responsible for repairing the image associated with the office.

Both candidates, Jeffrey Prang and John Morris, called into The Hot Seat.

Prang manages the public affairs unit in the Assessor’s office and has previous government experience. He says that he has been part of the “reform team.”

Morris is a head deputy district attorney who says he has a real estate background. On day one, if elected, he plans to put certain rules into place regarding corruption.
