The second half of the college football season is official underway. Who looks poised to bring home some hardware?

1. Dak Prescott, Quarterback, Junior, Mississippi State University: 1478 passing yards, 61.5 completion percentage, 14 passing touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 576 rushing yards, 8 rushing touchdowns

Prescott stepped up the plate on Saturday in Mississippi State’s 38-23 program-defining victory against the second-ranked Auburn Tigers. The Heisman favorite threw for 246 yards and a touchdown, while adding 121 rushing yards and two scores on the ground—his fourth 100-yard rushing day of the season. If Prescott and the Bulldogs finish the season strong against Alabama and Ole Miss, expect to see another SEC dual-threat quarterback hoisting the Heisman.

2. Marcus Mariota, Quarterback, Junior, University of Oregon: 1621 passing yards, 70 completion percentage, 17 touchdowns, 0 interceptions, 290 rushing yards, 5 rushing touchdowns

Mariota passed Saturday’s test against the UCLA Bruins with flying colors, recording 285 total yards and four touchdowns en route to a 42-30 win that was never really that close. The Hawaiian signal caller is the nation’s premiere passer, boasting an incredible 17:0 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Mariota’s career has been nothing short of sensational and he will be in the thick of the Heisman race until the very end.

3. Melvin Gordon, Running Back, Junior, University of Wisconsin: 1046 rushing yards, 7.9 yards per carry, 13 rushing touchdowns

Wisconsin’s 38-28 win over Illinois was business as usual for Wisconsin’s one man wrecking machine, who rushed for 175 yards and four touchdowns. Gordon’s ridiculous 7.92 yards per carry is on pace to break the NCAA record of 7.81 that was set in 1983. Gordon will receive an invitation to the Heisman ceremony if he continues to put up monster stats week in and week out.

4. Everett Golson, Quarterback, Senior, University of Notre Dame: 1683 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 209 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns

Golson was phenomenal in Notre Dame’s 50-43 shootout win over North Carolina last week. The senior quarterback threw for 300 yards, three touchdowns and added another 71 yards on the ground. Golson’s Heisman hopes hinge on this Saturday’s game against second-ranked Florida State. If he shines, he will cement himself among the elite quarterbacks in college football.

5. Todd Gurley, Running Back, Junior, University of Georgia: 773 rushing yards, 8.2 yards per carry, 8 touchdowns

Gurley is suspended indefinitely and was held out of Saturday’s contest against Missouri after leading the Heisman race just one week ago. The 6’1’’, 226 pound playmaker is the consensus top tailback in college football, but his Heisman chances are fading. Gurley will need to return to action next week and continue his torrid pace if he wants to be considered a serious contender for college football’s most prestigious award.
