Authorities say that Levette Crespo was arguing with Mayor Crespo Tuesday afternoon when their son intervened. According to Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials, the mayor punched his son in the face, which caused his wife to grab a handgun and shoot the mayor three times.

Attorney Eber Bayona, representing the mother and son, said that he believed his client will not be charged because she was acting reasonably. Bayona said, “Domestic violence and battered woman syndrome is at the center of this case." 

The mayor’s wife and son underwent questioning and are waiting for the district attorney’s office to determine whether charges will be placed on them.
