This coming Saturday marks the 40th season on air for "Saturday Night Live" - and possibly longtime cast member Kenan Thompson's last as well.

According to TMZ, Thompson, who has been on the show since 2003, was supposed to leave after last season, but "SNL" executive producer Lorne Michaels convinced him to stay for one more season.

However, a spokesperson for the NBC show claimed that the report was inaccurate, saying, "[T]he season hasn't even started and cast decisions aren't made until the end of the season."

Other departing cast members include Weekend Update anchor Cecily Strong and Nasim Pedrad, who's leaving to star on former "SNL" writer John Mulaney's new show "Mulaney." John Milhiser, Noël Wells, and Brooks Wheelan were also let go after only one season.

Twenty-year old stand-up comedian Pete Davidson will be joining the cast, along with former SNL writer and "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" correspondent Michael Che, who is replacing Strong on the Weekend Update. Former "SNL" star Darrell Hammond will return to the show as its new announcer following the passing of Don Pardo last month.
