As attendees of an Art of Elysium event on Friday night explored prepared art installations inside the Ace Hotel Theatre, LA-based graffiti artist PUSH was busy creating his contribution live on the sidewalk.

The event, Genesis - A Celebration of Emeriging Artists, had well-known artists like Spike Jonze, Karen O, and Beck nominate up-and-comers to create what coordinator Rain Phoenix called "a circle of giving." PUSH was nominated by Shepard Fairey, the man famous for his "Hope" portrait of Obama in 2008 and his "OBEY" campaign and clothing line.

Fairey called PUSH a "great role model in the art world" because of how supportive he is of other artists.

"The fact that he's willing to paint for free and donate a canvas to charity is selfless," Fairey said.

The proceeds of this work by PUSH will go to Art of Elysium, which connects artists and musicians and their work with critically ill children. (Sophia Li)
