Vanessa Hudgens Makes Broadway Debut In 'Gigi'
Already hard at work to prepare for her new role, Hudgens will be starring in the revival of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's popular musical "Gigi," which will debut next year in Washington, D.C.
"I think, as an actor, the ultimate dream is to be on Broadway," the actress told the AP. "I think it's the true test. There are no second takes. You've got to bring everything you've got for the most critical of audiences. It's an honor, if anything. I'm over the moon."
Based on the French novel of the same name by French writer Colette, "Gigi" tells the story of a young Parisian girl who is being groomed as a courtesan for a wealthy man named Gaston, who eventually falls in love with and marries her. The book was originally turned into a stage show starring Audrey Hepburn in 1951 and has seen many subsequent reincarnations since then.
The musical, directed by Eric D. Schaeffer ("Follies," "Million Dollar Quartet"), will be shown at the Kennedy Center in D.C. from Jan. 16 to Feb. 12 before making its way to Broadway - the exact dates for which will be announced at a later time.
