A U.S. military airstrike targeted an al-Shabab leader in Somalia on Monday night. Officials are unclear if the the airstrike was successful.

The airstrike was focused on Ahmed Abdi Godane, who took charge of the group in 2008.

The strike hit a location where senior members of the al-Qaeda-linked group were gathered for a meeting, Reuters reports.
