Why is Teen Wolf one of MTV’s most successful television shows? Not only is its cast both eye candy and talented, but its action - filled plotlines ultimately keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. It only takes one episode for a new viewer to become a dedicated fan of Teen Wolf. Of course, one has to watch Teen Wolf from the beginning, and in doing so, one will realize that the show has evolved throughout the seasons.

Has Become Darker.

It’s hard to pinpoint the exact time that Teen Wolf really and truly became the MTV show we see now with its bloodshed, torture, and gruesome murders. In seasons one and two, Teen Wolf’s content was mainly filled with the Scott (Tyler Posey) and Allison (Crystal Reed) forbidden romance story and some cool action scenes between werewolves. But, beginning in season three, one sees how the show has developed into thriller — like content, keeping you on your toes. From the Benefactor aiming to kill all supernatural creatures to the Eichen House mental institution, your nightmares are inevitable. The supernatural characters featured on the show also account for much of the eerie content. These creepy and sinister characters fill Teen Wolf episodes with back-to-back scary scenes.

More Supernatural Creatures.

While it is natural to think that as a show evolves more characters need to be added, but are these extra creatures a distraction from the heart of the show — werewolves? Or, does the addition of new characters prosper the show? Yes, in season one there was Jackson (aka Colton Haynes) who was the kanima, a snake-like creature. Even though he was not a werewolf, he was the villain of the season and therefore, doesn’t distract from Teen Wolf's true origins. Season three, on the other hand, introduced a mass collection of new supernatural beings. To name a few, we added the darach, kitsune, nogitsune, banshee, fox, were-coyote, oni, mute, berserkers and were-jaguar to our supernatural inventory. 

It is no joke when fans of Teen Wolf say that when you miss one episode, you miss a death, a new couple and five new supernatural creatures.

Loss of important characters that we never saw coming. 

Colton Haynes’ abrupt departure from the show to start another show definitely impacted the show greatly. In the season two finale, we learn that Jackson never died. He was, in fact, transforming into a new and more powerful creature. Unfortunately they weren’t able to expand on his character, missing a great opportunity for such a complex character (and an attractive one too, shame).

The death of Allison Argent marks one of the most heartbreaking deaths of the entirety of Teen Wolf. While Allison and Scott were already broken up at the time of her death, some Scott/Allison shippers were still hopeful. This was perhaps the most shocking, tear-jerking, and absolutely appalling death in the entirety of Teen Wolf.

What has stayed the same?

The main romance in the show hasn’t faltered, but the power couple has changed. First, the original Romeo and Juliet love story between Scott (Tyler Posey) and Allison made viewers love the show. Their forbidden love is typical of all teenage romances – sweet, sensitive, and also sexy. Therefore, when Allison and Scott broke up in season two, it was a total shock. Scott’s second and current relationship with Kira is dominating the love scene. The transformation of their relationship from platonic to romantic was slow-moving until it finally jumped to full swing in season four.

Teen Wolf would be nothing without Scott’s best friend, Stiles Stilinski (Dylan O’Brien — another hottie!). Not only is Stiles an integral part of the show, but he offers comic relief in an otherwise drama-filled show. He’s always there to offer a joke or the perfect one-liner. Dylan O’Brien often improvises much of the humor himself, exploring freedom with his lines. The personality contrasts between  the multitude of characters create funny and witty humor. Teen Wolf fans everywhere love the pairing of lighthearted Stiles and mysterious Derek Hale (Tyler Hoechlin) — no one can quite forget their famous pool scene in season two.

So we see that while Teen Wolf may be slightly shifting away from werewolves, dedicated fans will always stay true to the show. The season finale will no doubt cause much havoc among the fandom, especially because the end of a season usually marks another death or another tragic event.
