With the release of his Free Market EP almost a year ago, Ojai native, James Kaye, is taking his music to the streets. While working on his newest album, Kaye is currently on tour in Southern California.

Though having a very nascent career, Kaye’s already had the opportunity to work and tour with the likes of Shwayze and Juicy J. Looking closely at their careers, Kaye’s had time to figure out what he wants to do for his own image and career.

Kaye said, “For these past few weeks, I’ve been doing a lot of soul searching on what I really want to do.”

The San Luis Obispo resident attributes his style of his music to his California upbringing. The beach, the sun and the laid-back vibes all influenced his music’s tone since he started making music five years ago, listening to the quintessence of California music style - from his brother’s punk and metal to reggae to the singer-songwriter tunes of Ben Harper and Jack Johnson.

The uncertainty of Kaye’s career doesn’t bother him, and says that no matter what, music will always remain a constant in his life. With BlingNot Media offering distribution to Kaye and touring around California, he is definitely a rising star in the realm of hip-hop and in the California area.

Kaye is expecting to release more music come winter.
