“We do have a number of neighborhood outages scattered around our customer service area. There are about 727 outages as of 2 p.m. today,” said Miriam Pearson, spokesperson for LADWP.

Outages first occurred Monday night after LADWP customers beat the utility’s records for power usages set in 2012, using double the amount of power on a given day, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Since then, LADWP has been rushing to restore customers’ power, while facing new outages in different regions of Los Angeles.

With temperatures increasing each day, some Angelenos are taking precaution when deciding turn on their home’s air conditioning.

“I’ve been using a new fan I bought so I don’t turn on the A/C as much and it’s real kept my electrical cost down,” Brentwood resident Ken Zwart said. “This heat is just awful and so many people don’t even have A/C units at home.”

No stranger to power outages, Brentwood resident Allyson Bunting also shared her families plan to keep their electrical bill down during this scorching heat.

“We just deal with the outages as best we can,” Bunting said. “We try to do our share by not using that much power so to keep cool down today we’re buying watermelon,” Bunting said as she entered Whole Foods in Brentwood.

In the meantime forecasters are expecting temperatures to come down slightly throughout the rest of the week with temperatures predicted to hit as low as 79 degrees Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
