To help the global fight against the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, President Barack Obama plans to send about 3,000 troops and medical aid to the area in about two weeks.

According to a Department of Defense official, the President will announce Tuesday that he will deploy the troops to help distribute 50,000 sanitation kits, body bags for victims of the disease, and supplies to build as many as 20 treatment centers that can accommodate 100 patients each.

Once arrived, deployed troops will create headquarters in Monrovia, Liberia and begin work on constructing facilities, training medical aides, and educating residents on ways to avoid spreading the disease.

Obama’s plans to provide help come after requests from the United Nations and World Health Organization to increase U.S. role in fighting back against the spread of Ebola.
