Three Afghan soldiers who went missing from a training exercise in Cape Cod were taken into custody after trying to cross the Canadian border near Niagra Falls on Monday, Sept. 22.

The soldiers had been part of a U.S. Central Command Regional Cooperation cooperation and peacekeeping exercise with six other nations, before leaving a group trip to the Cape Cod mall on Saturday night.

The soldiers were found after the State Department, Central Command, Massachusetts State Police, and local police went looking for the absent soldiers.

"They were vetted by the military and cleared by the military in coming here," said Governor Deval Patrick, according to CBS.

This is the second time Afghan nationals have gone missing this month; two Afghanis were found in an undisclosed location outside of Washington D.C. after going missing from a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration training program, said ABC.  The two men reportedly did not want to return to Afghanistan.
