Joan Rivers Dead At 81

Comedian Joan Rivers died this afternoon at the age of 81. 

Rivers suffered a heart attack on Aug. 28 while undergoing surgery. She remained in critical care in New York City until her passing.

"It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers," her daugther, Melissa Rivers said.

"She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother."

The funny lady was best known for hosting "Fashion Police" on E!, as well as various appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and "The Tonight Show."
