German laws that prohibit sexual relationships between brothers and sisters maybe dropped after the country's ethic council decided that the regulations were "an unacceptable intrusion into the right of sexual self-determination."

"The fundamental right of adult right of adult siblings to sexual self-determination is to be weighed more heavily than the abstract idea of protection of the family," German Ethics Council said in its statement.

The vadility of the laws was called into question after an incestuous couple with four children was sentenced to more than three years in prison. Ever since, the couple was forced to live apart, as the court considered them harmful to their children.

The couple's verdict has yet to be overturned by the European Court of Human Rights.
