Following the rejection of Defense of Marriage Act in the Supreme Court last year, a federal judge upheld Louisiana’s existing state ban on gay marriage.

Judge Martin Feldman of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana released a 32-page opinion piece explaining his beliefs around gay-marriage and the court ruling.

Feldman said, “The court is persuaded that a meaning of what is marriage that has endured in history for thousands of years, and prevails in a majority of states today, is not universally irrational on the constitutional grid.”

This ruling is receiving backlash from gay marriage supporters and is expected to be appealed to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.
