Angelina Jolie To Direct Richard Leakey Biopic 'Africa'
Skydance Productions announced that the multi-talented actress has signed on to direct "Africa," a biopic about Kenyan politician and paleoanthropologist Richard Leakey, who worked to protect the elephant population in Africa from poachers in the 80s.
"Africa" is the latest in a number of directing projects that Jolie has been working on. To date, her only released work as a director is the 2011 film "In the Land of Blood and Honey," a romantic drama set during the Bosnian War.
Her upcoming film "Unbroken" will debut this winter on Christmas day. Also a biopic, the Universal movie tells the story of Olympic athlete and World War II veteran, Louis Zamperini.
Jolie's other directorial project "By the Sea" - in which the actress co-stars alongside husband Brad Pitt - will also be released by Universal next year.
And although the news about "Africa" only came out today, quite a few Hollywood heavyweights have already been name-dropped in connection to the film.
The movie's script will be written by Eric Roth, the Oscar-winning screenwriter behind "Forrest Gump" (1994). He's also co-written the screenplays for several other Oscar-nominated films, including "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (2008) and Steven Spielberg's "Munich" (2005).
Oscar-nominated cinematographer Roger Deakins, who shot "Unbroken," will work with Jolie again on "Africa."
Besides directing the film, Jolie will also be producing it alongside the likes of Skydance CEO David Ellison ("Star Trek: Into Darkness", "World War Z"), Jon Peters ("Flashdance," Tim Burton's "Batman" movies), and Dana Goldberg ("World War Z," "Jack Reacher").
