Famous Aussies Luke HemmingsMichael CliffordCalum Hood, and Ashton Irwin smashed the stage last night at Hollywood's renowned House of Blues. While they are only 18, 19, 19, and 20 years old, respectively, they have already achieved an insane amount of accomplishments. Releasing their chart-topping, self-titled album, "5 Seconds of Summer," performing at the VMAS, and recently playing at the iTunes Festival are just a few of their recent successes.

While they are currently opening for One Direction, they are anything but a novelty boy band. Luke plays the guitar and sings lead vocals, Michael plays the guitar and sings backup vocals, Calum plays the bass and sings backup vocals and Ashton plays the drums and sings backup vocals. 5 Seconds of Summer incorporates different styles into their music, making their own unique pop/punk genre. They refer to themselves as a love child of all their favorite bands growing up, including All Time Low, Green Day and Good Charlotte.

They undoubtedly put on one of the most rocking shows. Fans can easily tell how the boys get lost in every song, playing their hearts out for the fans. From Luke’s lead vocals, Michael’s punkish tone, Calum’s bass beats, and Ashton’s drumming skills, the boys definitely put on an upbeat, breathtaking concert. Add in the heavy guitar riffs and seamless harmonies, 5SOS have unparalleled talent.

Once I entered the venue, I could already tell this was going to be a memorable concert. The fans were getting hyped for 5SOS, whether they were in the pit, on the floor, or on the balcony. I got a wristband which gave me the privilege of standing in the pit area and it was nothing like I’ve ever experienced before – pure pandemonium. Some girls only made it halfway through their first song before exiting the pit since everyone was pushing and elbowing their way to the front.

They kicked off the show with a new track from the album, “18,” the perfect punk song to get the crowd ready for the show. Afterward they thanked everyone for coming especially since they hadn’t played at the House of Blues before. Then they sang old favorites “Out Of My Limit” and “Heartbreak Girl.” Next, they featured “Voodoo Doll” followed by hit single “Don’t Stop.” The band then took a break to talk with the fans about how they wanted to put on the best show, and Michael even shared what he ate for dinner last night (a hamburger with American cheese).

Next, they played a cover of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream“ and “Disconnected,” an alternative song from their U.S. EP. 5SOS then sang “Lost Boy” and one of their singles, “Amnesia,” slowing down the set list a bit. They continued this mellow vibe with one of their first songs, “Beside You.” They took another little break in which they shocked the audience with the news that the concert was being recorded as part of a new live album (of course that made the pit even crazier).

The band mentioned that some of their own idols were there – All Time Low’s Drummer Rian Dawson was there and Sleeping with Siren’s lead singer Kellin Quinn was rumored to be on the balcony as well. Some of the most respected artists in the music world came out last night to support their fellow punk rockers, showing just how much talent 5SOS genuinely has.

They continued with new tracks, “Everything I Didn’t Say” and “Long Way Home” and another U.S. EP hit, “Heartache on the Big Screen,” a pop-filled song. They performed their joking, but fun–filled track titled “Pizza,” in which the drummer Ashton got up in front of the stage to sing, a rare occurrence.

Continuing this punk sound, 5SOS sang a cover of Green Day’s “American Idiot,” which they previously got praised from Green Day themselves. Their last two songs, “Kiss Me Kiss Me” and “Good Girls” closed off the show with an upbeat, pop/punk/rock sound.

Don’t worry though – the show didn’t end there. The boys came back out on stage and the encore started off with the Romantics’ cover, “What I Like About You,” a definite crowd pleaser. Next, they performed a new song of their album, “End Up Here,” a more edgy song co-written by Ashton, Michael, and All Time Low’s Alex Gasgarth. Their final song was, of course, “She Looks So Perfect.” The hit single reached number one in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the UK charts, and made the US Billboard Hot 100. There was no better ending to the show than with this ultimate fan favorite (except maybe taking their shirts off).

Their international success is uncalculated – the boys will be performing on the Where We Are Tour for three nights at the Rose Bowl starting tonight and will be playing the Forum in November. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more from this band in the very near future due to their quick rise to fame.
