In lap 20 of the 160-lap race, 16 cars were involved in a massive wreck on the Daytona speedway track.

Multiple star drivers, including Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmie Johnson were knocked out of the competition, causing a major upset and a wave of speculation over who would take home the trophy.

Later on in the day, a second major pileup of 26 cars again slowed the race. The drivers suffered varying degrees of damage, and very few cars that were in the lead remained in contention for the win.

Underdog Aric Almirola took home the title at the end of the day.
