Six Californias? It Could Be So If A Venture Capitalist Gets His Way

The initiative would be on the ballot for the 2016 general election. Draper, who has invested in the likes of Twitter, Skype, and Tesla, lives in what would become Silicon Valley under the initiative.
Draper's rationele is that California is simply too big to efficiently govern. By splitting the state into six, residents would in theory see far better representation than they currently do under our supposedly boondoggled current state government.
A quick judge of the map Draper's presented highlights a variety of the dramatic differences our state has, and suggests that maybe California's rich just want to seperate themselves from the rest of us and develop into a technocratic super-state.
For example. Silicon Valley, a state comprising of the region exactly what its name suggests would beome easily the richest state in the United States. According to a report by Legislative Analysts Office, Silicon Valley would boast a median household income of more than $63,000 dollars per year. For compairson, Maryland is the country's current leader when it comes to household median income at about $60,000 dollars per year.
By contrast, Central California would become the nation's poorest state with a median income of about $33,000 dollars per year according to the report. Mississippi, currently the nation's poorest state, has an average household income of about $36,000 dollars per year.
That might change though, once Central California realizes it has the only water left in the state and can start charging premium to other states.
Here's the initiative's (if not condescending) video.
Time will tell, but even if voters thought this was a good idea, statehood still has to be ratified by congress. Dividing the state into six would also mean a dramatic restructuring of the United State Senate, expanding it from its present 100 seats to 110 to account for five "new" states.
Let's see how that works out.
