A 7-foot great white shark attacked a swimmer near the Manhattan Beach pier on Saturday, after a fisherman struggled to reel in the creature for nearly 45 minutes. The shark was agitated when the 40-year-old man swam by and bit the victim in the torso, according to CNN.

The man is in stable condition at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, per the Los Angeles Times. Cellphone video capturing the attack was posted by KTLA.

Authorities have banned all fishing from the pier until Tuesday.
