In a statement issued today, a Central Intelligence Agency spokesman said an internal investigation revealed that its officers engaged in improper computer searches of Senate members.

The C.I.A. employees penetrated the Senate Intelligence Committee's computer network, which the agency's inspector general said was inappropriate, according to the New York Times. They reportedly were hacking the computers to review classified files on prisoner interrogation.

While the statement didn't reveal the details of the report, it indicated that the C.I.A.'s director, John O. Brennan, apologized to two senior members of the S.I.C. An internal accountability board will review the investigation.

Meanwhile, the C.I.A. has issued zero clever tweets on the matter.
