90s Fashion Trends: Yea Or Nay

Fashion in 2014 is the trademark blast from the past. Crop tops, bleached hair, and overalls were the staple items to have in one's closet during the 90s. However, while some of these trends are coming back with a vengeance, there are other styles that deserve to stay put in the past. Here are nine 90s trends that we think should either stay in the 90s or continue on in your present wardrobe.

Turtlenecks:

Turtlenecks in the 90s are like the V neck t-shirts of this decade. They went with everything and elongated the neck when worn alone or with a denim jacket. Turtleneck crop-tops are the popular choice for 2014 because it goes great with high waisted bottom trend. We say yea.

Flared Jeans:

Remember when the ends of your jeans were so worn out from dragging against the floor? These were probably the most comfortable pair of jeans ever. We love skinny jeans, but sometimes the legs needs to breathe, especially during the summer time. Not to mention that while skinny jeans might not fit all body types, flare jeans are perfect for a more versatile group of body shapes. Yea to flare jeans.

Overalls:

Overalls are the staple clothing items of the 90s that we all remember Melissa Joan Hart sporting in Clarissa Explains it All. While you might not wear a neon t-shirt with stripes under your overalls, you can easily modify this clothing item by wearing a crop top under it for hotter days or a high neck long sleeve for a more chic look for an otherwise casual outfit. What's a plus is that overalls provide a full outfit that you can slip into for days where you don't have time to match and coordinate. We decide yea.

Frosted Tips:

Justin Timberlake from 'N Sync. Must we say more? While JT has evolved tremendously into a dapper artist, we all cringe to think about those days when it was cool to bleach the ends of your hair. It looks more like a flame engulfing the head rather than a fashion statement. Nay.

Bowl Cuts:

Rider Strong, Nick Carter, and even Leonardo DiCaprio sported the round haircut back in the day and girls would swoon and fawn. Try the look it in 2014, and you might get a different reaction. Nay.

Shoulder Pads:

If you like the football player look then shoulder padded jackets and blazers are for you! Otherwise, shoulder pads need to stay in the fashion vault…forever. This was another common trend in the 80s all the way to the early 90s, but the grunge wave influenced by bands such as The Melvins and Nirvana quickly ended that. Nay.

Scrunchies:

Whether it was multicolored, fuzzy, or glittery, scrunchies were the hair fashion statement of that era. The more thick and outrageous the hair accessory, the better. It wasn't only for simple ponytails, but for funky pigtails and high side ponytails and stars like Paula Abdul and Alicia Silverstone displayed. It's definitely a cute accessory…for the 5 year old. Nay.

Backwards Jeans:

Jump! Jump! Kriss Kross was the rapping duo of the 1990s. It was cool to wear extra baggy jeans, but wearing them backwards automatically gave you brownie points on the trendy scale. While it was a cute look for the rappers, we don't expect that take storm ever again.

Harem Pants:

Maybe they don't have to be as drastic as MC Hammer's bottoms, but the 2014 modified cut of the loose pants that taper down to the ankle has captured the hearts of nostalgic fashionistas. It can be easily paired with a crop top and are the perfect alternative to jeans on those humid days. Yea to harem pants.
