Whole Foods Faces $800,000 In Fines
After a yearlong investigation found the luxury supermarket chain guilty of overcharging California shoppers, Whole Foods is now facing $800,000 in penalties.
State and local inspectors found the grocer guilty of charging more than advertised for its goods. The investigation revealed the Whole Foods may not have removed the weight of containers from salad or hot bar items; they may have sold less than the amount printed on the labels of items sold per pound and some items that are legally required to be sold by the pound were sold by weight instead.
Among other charges, Whole Foods must pay $630,000 in civil penalties, some of which may be used to return money to overcharged customers.
