It is important to remember that state-wide offices are just that — representative of the entire state — and not just for Los Angeles County. Even though the county has a population of nearly 10 million people, that does not necessarily mean the state pendulum will always swing in L.A. County's direction.

The following results are from the Secretary of State's website, which posted that "10.7% (2,381 of 22,353) precincts partially report[ed] as of...9:14 p.m."

The biggest difference between the county and the state may be the Secretary of State's race. In Los Angeles County, Alex Padilla is leading by 10 percent of the vote over Pete Peterson — 35.25 percent to 25.25 percent. But when looking at the state as a whole, however, Pete Peterson is ahead by one percent over Padilla — 29.8 percent to 28.8 percent.

USC's Dan Schur has 9.3 percent of the vote.

In the race for Controller, Republican Ashley Swearengin was in first state-wide with 23.7 percent of the vote. Fellow Republican David Evans was in second with 23.0 percent. Democrats Betty T. Yee with 21.8 percent and John A. Perez with 20.0 percent of the vote, were in third and fourth respectively.

Votes in favor of both propositions 41 and 42 were also ahead.
