Gov. Rick Scott of Florida signed a bill Monday legalizing the limited use of a special strain of marijuana to treat epilepsy, cancer and Lou Gehrig's disease.

The bill SB 1030, nicknamed "Charlotte's Web" after a Colorado girl whose epileptic seizues have shown responses to the drug, passed with bipartisan support.

The non-euphoric strain is high in cannabidiol (CBD) and low in tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that causes users to experience a high.

Voters in Florida will weigh in on the issue in the November elections with a referendum on the ballot which would allow for more broader medical marijuana use in the state.
