Salt Lake City may be best known for its large Mormon population, but now a free-spirited nudist community are temporarily moving in too.

200 visitors have begun erecting tents and kitchens in preparation for the annual Rainbow Family gathering.

Still nearly two weeks away, an estimated 10,000 will be arriving for the July 4 celebration. But the 12,000-person town of churches and ranches is already feeling the weight of the current hippy influx.

Authorities are anticipating nudity, drugs and lawless abandon. They have doubled their forces in anticipation of the group’s expansion, according to CBS

Already the group has driven away two Mormon girls’ summer camps, crashed a wedding reception and seen the death of one 39-year-old woman.

For the most part, however, participants have cooperated with officials and attempted to minimize their impact on the land.
