L.A. County's Congressional Districts Update

In total, there are 18 Congressional districts either partially or entirely situated in Los Angeles County. Below are updates on all 18 races with numbers from the Secretary of State's election website.

District 23

Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the majority whip, is running unopposed.

District 25

As of 11:56 p.m. and "37.9%...precincts partially reporting", Republican Steve Knight was in first with 28.2 percent of the vote and fellow Republican Tony Strickland was in second with 27.8 percent of the vote. The leading Democrat is Lee Rogers with 23.2 percent of the vote. He was in third. This seat is currently held by Rep. Buck McKeon, who is retiring.

District 26

As of 11:19 p.m. and "53.6%...precincts partially reporting," Democratic incumbent Julia Brownley was in first with 46.6 percent of the vote. Republican Jeff Gorell, a current member of the California State Assembly, was in second with 44.4 percent of the vote.

District 27

As of 11:23 p.m. and "31.2%...precincts partially reporting," Democratic incumbent Judy Chu was in the lead over her sole competitor, Republican Jack Orswell, 59.7 percent to 40.3 percent.

District 28

As of 11:23 p.m. and "26.2%...precincts partially reporting," Democratic incumbent Adam Schiff was in first with 75.4 percent of the vote. Republican Steve Stokes was in a distant second with 17.5 percent.

District 29

As of 11:23 p.m. and "15.5%...precincts partially reporting," Democratic incumbent Tony Cardenas was in first with 60.7 percent of the vote. His closest challenger was William O'Callaghan Leader with 27.1 percent.

District 30

As of 11:28 p.m. and "14.6%...precincts partially reporting," Democratic incumbent Brad Sherman was leading with 58.4 percent of the vote. Republican Mark Reed was the closest challenger, but he was in a distant second with 19.1 percent.

District 32

As of 11:28 p.m. and "44.1% precincts partially reporting," Democratic incumbent Grace Napolitano was in first with 64.0 percent of the vote. Her sole challenger, Republican Arturo Enrique Alas, had 36.0 percent of the vote.

District 33

As of 11:30 p.m. and "18.3%...precincts partially reporting," Republican Elan Carr was in the lead with 23.1 percent of the vote. Democrat Ted Lieu was in second with 20.0 percent of the vote and Wendy Greuel, also a Democrat, was in third with 17.5 percent of the vote. When asked for a comment about the numbers at time of reporting, Lieu said, "I'm pleased to be in the top two so far, but it's still early." This seat is currently held by the retiring Congressman Henry Waxman.

District 34

As of 11:39 p.m. and "32.5%...precincts partially reporting," Democratic incumbent Xavier Becerra was in the lead with 72.7 percent of the vote. His closest challenger, Democrat Adrienne Nicole Edwards, had 14.9 percent of the vote.

District 35

As of 11:39 p.m. and "6.6%...precincts partially reporting," Democrat Norma Torres was in the lead with 66.3 percent of the vote. Christina Gagnier, also a Democrat, was in second with 16.2 percent of the vote. This seat is currently held by the retiring Congresswoman Gloria Negrete McLeod.

District 37

As of 11:44 p.m. and "26.5%...precincts partially reporting," Democratic incumbent Karen Bass was in the lead with 78.3 percent of the vote. Republican R. Adam King was in second with 15.6 percent.

District 38

As of 11:44 p.m. and "85.9%...precincts partially reporting," Democratic incumbent Linda Sanchez was in first with 58.6 percent. Her only challenger, Republican Benjamin Campos, had 41.4 percent of the vote.

District 39

As of 11:49 p.m. and "53.2%...precincts partially reporting," Republican incumbent Ed Royce was in the lead with 69.4 percent of the vote. His only opposition was Peter Anderson, who had 30.6 percent of the vote.

District 40

As of 11:49 p.m. and "78.2%...precincts partially reporting," Democratic incumbent Lucille Roybal-Allard was leading with 67.0 percent of the vote. Her only challenger was also a Democrat, David Sanchez, and had 33.0 percent of the vote.

District 43

As of 11:49 p.m. and "52.8%...precincts partially reporting," Democratic incumbent Maxine Waters was leading with 65.4 percent of the vote. Her sole challenger, Republican John Wood, Jr., had 34.6 percent.

District 44

Democratic Incumbent Janice Hahn is running unopposed.

District 47

As of 11:54 p.m. and "49.0%...precincts partially reporting," Democratic incumbent Alan Lowenthal had 56.9 percent of the vote. Republican Andy Whallon was the only person running against him. He had 43.1 percent of the vote.
