Indiana Same-Sex Marriage Ban Ruled Unconstitutional

Federal District Judge Richard Young declared on Wednesday that the ban was in violation of the United States Constitution’s equal-protection clause.
After the ruling, couples immediately began lining up at marriage offices, where county clerks were waiting to issue marriage licenses.

The ruling also demanded that out-of-state same-sex marriages be recognized in Indiana. The state is expected to appeal the ruling, with Governor Mike Pence supporting the appeal.
“Same-sex couples, who would otherwise qualify to marry in Indiana, have the right to marry in Indiana. These couples, when gender and sexual orientation are taken away, are in all respects like the family down the street. The Constitution demands that we treat them as such,” said Judge Young.
