USC’s School of Cinematic Arts will receive a large-format theater system courtesy of the Canadian theater technology corporation IMAX, the company announced this week.

The Robert Zemeckis Center for Digital Arts will be home to the new IMAX system. It will be part of a 35,000 square foot digital training center and research facility. IMAX Chief Executive Richard L. Gelfond said in a statement the company’s goal is to allow students to learn about the latest innovations in filmmaking and post-production.

“We take our commitment to the future of entertainment very seriously and believe that through this gift we can help educate future filmmaker of the world on how to use technology to express their vision in new ways,” Gelfond said in a statement.

The new gigantic screen was welcomed by students, faculty members and guests, including legendary director Steven Spielberg.
