A new study has just proven what both cats and their human companions already knew.

At Carroll University in Wisconsin, 600 students were surveyed to examine how personality traits coincided with cat ownership. As reported by TIME, found that dog lovers tend to be more lively (an admirable trait), but that cat lovers tend to be more pragmatic "non-conformists" (*cheer*). Cat lovers also scored higher overall in intelligence.

The lively, goofy persona of dogs tends to be more compatible with extroverts, while the cuddly, lazy attitude of cats tends to be more for people who'd rather sit home and read a book.

The next step: comparing the intelligence of cats and their owners. Because your cat's wide, fixated gaze is actually studying you.
