Chris Rock hosted the 2014 BET Awards Show, broadcasted from L.A. Live, on Sunday night.

Although it seems like 2014 is the "Year of the Carters," Pharrell stole the night, taking home awards for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist and Video of the Year. Apparently, Bey’s album that was comprised of videos just wasn’t “Happy” enough.

Standout performances included “You and I” by the soulful John Legend, and a collaboration between Chris Brown, Lil Wayne and Tyga with their hit song “Loyal.” Of course, there was Usher’s noteworthy performance of a multitude of his hits including “Confessions,” U Remind Me” and “Caught Up.”

Lionel Richie was given the Lifetime Achievement Award (despite the fact that the news network couldn't spell his name). John Legend, Ledisi and Yolanda Williams also performed a tribute to the legendary singer.

The show wasn’t all fun and games. A stabbing and a shooting at two separate pre-show events overshadowed the night. Neither events were directly affiliated, nor endorsed, by BET Networks.
