Over 15,000 homes and businesses in Carlsbad received evacuation notices as wildfires fueled by intense heat and high winds continue to move through the area. Police are resorting to using loudspeakers to encourage residents to evacuate, according to NBC News.

Other areas throughout San Diego County are also being evacuated — including Legoland, Camp Pendleton and California State University San Marcos — as fire officials race to contain multiple blazes across the region. The intense bout of wildfires comes as the state of California struggles with its worst drought in years.

Officials are also trying to contain a fire that broke out along the 405 freeway in Mission Hills, according to NBC Los Angeles. Farther south, a brush fire spread to the SeaPort Marina Hotel in Long Beach, closing stretches of Second Street and the Pacific Coast Highway.
