April Jace, 40, was discovered dead in a hallway of the house on Monday with multiple gunshot wounds. The NY Daily News reports police later found a handgun believed to be Michael's.

Authorities believe an argument occurred Monday night between April and Michael, while their two young sons were present in the house. Michael called the emergency dispatcher and admitted he'd shot his wife. He stayed at the location until officers arrived, according to Police Detective Dean Vinluan.

The children have since been placed with relatives.

Police charged Michael in his wife's shooting death on Thursday and he will soon be appearing before a judge.

If convicted, the 51-year-old could face 50 years to life in state prison.

At this time, no motive for April's death has been disclosed, but detectives are investigating whether the actor's longstanding financial issues or other marital problems influenced the murder.

Vinluan said the family had no reports of domestic violence, but a prior history of money issues. Michael had declared for bankruptcy in 2011 and has been behind on payments in recent times.

As an actor, he starred in "Southland," "Planet of the Apes" and "Forrest Gump."

His bail is set at $2 million.
