The two have long been friends since they starred in the film "Waiting to Exhale" and in accepting her directorial debut for the TV movie, Bassett said in a statement, “I have such regard for both Whitney's and Bobby's amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story. Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I'm beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world."

This biopic will chronicle the high profile relationship between the iconic singer and the singer-songwriter, from when they started dating at the height of their career (which came as a shock to the world) to their tumultuous marriage and the birth of Kristina Brown.
