A Nigerian military official said the government knows where the 270 kidnapped girls are but won't reveal their location. According the Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, the military won't use force to rescue them.

Badeh reportedly told a group of visitors in his office in Abuja, "The good news for the parents of the girls is that we know where they are, but we cannot tell you."

His comments are not confirmed, but they were reported by Al Jazeera and major TV channels in Nigeria says The Washington Post. This is the first time an official has revealed having any information about the kidnapped girls.

The 270 girls were kidnapped six weeks ago by the Islamist militant group Boko Haram.

Badeh said he can't reveal their location because he is protecting them, according to BBC News. "But where they are held, can we go there without force? We can't kill our girls in the name if trying to get them back."

Will this new information prompt Nigerian officials to take action? Will they risk the lives of the girls?
