Just minutes ago, around 11 AM on Sunday morning, the mysterious donor best known by the Twitter handle, @HiddenCash, set off an epic scavenger hunt around Los Angeles beaches. The project originally began in San Francisco, but recently Los Angelenos have been the ones cashing in on this anonymous generosity.

“I’ve made millions of dollars the last few years, more than I ever imagined, and yet many friends of mine, and people who work for me cannot afford to buy a modest home in the Bay Area,” the mystery donor told the Bold Italic. “This has caused me quite a bit of reflection. I am determined to give away some of the money I make, and in addition to charity, to do it in fun, creative ways like this.”

This grown up scavenger hunt begins when the mysterious donor tweets a clue for the latest location from the Twitter handle @HiddenCash. Whoever finds the money is then expected to tweet a picture of themselves with the cash.

"The bigger idea is just to give back, both financially and a sense of fun to the community that has made me wealthy,” the donor said.

While @HiddenCash claims that this “social experiment” will “continue indefinitely,” other people are already starting to begin hiding money of their own.

Since @HiddenCash first deputed in San Francisco attracting 391,000 twitter followers in a matter of weeks, over 200 donors have launched similar campaigns in cities and countries around the world.
