On the banks of the Hudson River, the president said that his administration is working to improve interagency coordination on federal permits and has alreadyimproved a website that tracks progress on construction projects.

Despite criticisms from Republicans of Obama’s “nuts and bolts” approach, White House advisors argue that the collective effect of these individually small projects will amount to tremendous benefits in people’s daily lives.

Polls show that his job approval has started to improve—rising from 40 percent in January to 45 percent in May—indicating that the strategy may be having an effect on the American people.
