eBay is urging its 145 million members to change their passwords immediately after announcing that a cyber breach three months ago has compromised personal customer data.

In a statement, the company revealed that unidentified hackers stole email addresses, birth dates, phone numbers, mailing addresses, encrypted passwords and employee logins. But, members can rest easy knowing that financial and credit card information, which is stored separately, is still safe.

The online auction site asserts it has seen no increased fraudulent account activity, and there is zero evidence that PayPal account users have been affected. The statement further explains that the attack took place between late February and early March, and users will be contacted via email and other marketing channels to change their passwords.

According to Reuters, the investigation into the violation is currently ongoing, with the help of law enforcement. "For the time being, we cannot comment on the specific number of accounts impacted," eBay spokeswoman Kari Ramirez said. "However, we believe there may be a large number of accounts involved."
