On Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden is set to formally reveal a new report from the White House Task Force to Protect Students from Sexual Assault that takes aim at the increasing number of sexual assaults on college campuses. The report includes steps campuses can take to become more transparent in the reporting of incidents. The report is accompanied by the launch of a website, NotAlone.gov, where students can get resources on reporting assaults on their campuses.

The White House is leading an effort to require universities to conduct anonymous surveys by 2016, to get a better understanding of the frequency of sexual assault, and is exploring the possibility of legislative measures. The Department of Education will provide campuses with guidance for talking with victims of sexual assault, and the importance of maintaining confidentiality. The task force has also provided a checklist and resources within the report to for universities to draft their own sexual assault policies.

Bide said of the report, “Colleges and universities need to face the facts about sexual assault…No more turning a blind eye or pretending it doesn't exist. We need to give victims the support they need — like a confidential place to go — and we need to bring the perpetrators to justice."

If you are a victim of sexual assault, visit NotAlone.gov for assiatance.
