It may not be the best time to go surfing. The 8.2 earthquake in Chile appears to have spurred small tsunami waves off the coast of California, according to The Los Angeles Times.

While there have yet to be any tsunami warnings issued for California and the West Coast, boaters should be conscious of unusually large waves and strong currents.

The Facebook page of The National Weather Service confirms that small tsunami waves struck in Los Angeles just before 5 in the morning and traveled to San Louis Obispo County shortly after.

Nevertheless, meteorologists are calling this wave activity normal and reassuring people not to panic.
