Trojans of Charity: Grace For Keshet
In full swing this week is the Hillel at USC sponsored charity event “Grace for Keshet.” The charity runs a litany of programs for Jewish individuals with developmental disabilities, focusing both on education and recreation. The mission statement of Keshet is to provide “a rainbow of hope for individuals with special needs,” and through all of its incredible programs, they do indeed bring color to many lives.
The charity week itself was birthed from a song written in the past year by USC student, Johnny Shorr. Dedicated to his cousin Jennifer, “Grace” is song of hope, determination, and universal recognition of the human condition and was performed first in front of her with the Keshet integrated Choir at their 24th annual Rainbow Banquet. Inspired by the song’s message, the organization has turned the song into the first ever 10 Day Art Initiative, starting March 31st and going until April 9th. Anyone donating a dollar or more will receive a download of “Grace” as well as the satisfaction of supporting Keshet and the programs they provide to children who enjoy them so much.
As the weather turns into the gorgeous breezy days of spring, students at SC could not be blamed for forgetting the world outside of our magnificent bubble. However, organizations like Hillel and Grace for Keshet and Trojans like Johnny Shorr are examples and reminders of what the Trojan spirit truly is.
