Some stars are natural in front of the camera. Others are more animated and skillful, making sure nothing goes wrong in front of a live audience.

Here are some movie stars that earned their time on screen because of their success on Broadway.

Kristen Bell

In 2001, Bell played Becky Thatcher in "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer." In 2002, she played Susanna Wolcott in "The Crucible."

Santino Fontana

In 2007, Santino was the understudy for George in "Sunday in the Park With George." He played Algernon Montcrieff in "The Importance of Being Earnest" on stage in 2011. He also was in "Cinderella" as Prince Topher in 2013.

Jonathan Groff

He played Nick Piazza in "Fame" (2005), Milchoir Gabor in "Spring Awakening" (2006), and most recently, Frederic in "The Pirates of Penzance" (2013).

Idina Menzel

In 1996, Menzel played Maureen Johnson in "Rent." Skipping to 2003, Menzel played perhaps her most memorable role as Elphaba in "Wicked," in which she won the Theatregoers Choice Award. Her most recent Broadway show was playing Elizabeth Vaughan in "If/Then" (2013).

Julie Andrews

Before Fontana’s take on "Cinderella," "The Sound of Music" and "The Princess Diaries" star, Julie Andrews, played Cinderella for the big screen in 1957. She could dance, sing and act on stage, making her movies hits with her presence. Before "Cinderella," she won a Tony Award for "Best Actress in a Musical" playing Eliza Doolittle in "My Fair Lady."
