There are quite a number of sequels lined up to be in theaters this year, from action-packed blockbusters to animated films. Here are some sequels we think will work and those we think are just hype from the the first films.

"Transformers 4: Age of Extinction"

"Transformers" have consistently never been favorable to critics with declining ratings on Rotten Tomatoes with each film but it had been a great hit in box office, making over $300 million in box office for every film. However, will "Transformers 4" be different with Mark Wahlberg as the lead and Steven Spielberg as the Executive Producer? Perhaps. From the trailer, it seems like the new cast might change the tone of the film but could it be more than just two hours of explosions, robots and visual effects? "Transformers 4: Age of Extinction" will be out on June 27, 2014.

Verdict: Just Buzz

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier"

With all the Marvel films in the last few years and with "Iron Man 3" breaking box office records, "Captain America 2" had a lot on its shoulders. It did get favorable reviews from critics with a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes but many reviews pointed out that the plot was crowd-pleasing but predictable. It lacks the charisma that Iron Man has to stand alone from the Marvel merchandise while some see it as the story that goes down the darker path compared to the other films of the Marvel universe. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" will be out on April 4, 2014.

Verdict: Just Buzz

"The Amazing Spiderman 2"

"The Amazing Spiderman" was a huge box office success but it never was a big hit among fans of Tobey Maguire's version of Spiderman. In the sequel, we see Spiderman facing challenges of the conflicts between his two identities and most importantly how it affects Gwen Stacy. *Spoilers* As Marvel comic fans know, Gwen Stacy dies in the books but will she die in "The Amazing Spiderman 2". Fans saw a set photo with Stacy wearing an outfit very, very similar to the one she died in in the books. *Spoilers* There have not been any reviews for this film yet but knowing that there are several important issues this film has to deal with within two hours, let's hope the film will not just rush through the stories by distracting audiences with an explosion of visual effects. It will be released on May 2, 2014.

Verdict: Promising

"X-Men: Days of Future Past"

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" was named the most anticipated Summer blockbuster by Rotten Tomatoes but can the sequel be as exciting as its predecessor? Seeing the trailer of the film it seems like the movie will feature a long list of mutants, whether this will help bring in a larger group of audience or will it seem like an overloaded film with only a one-minute screen time for each actor? I believe James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender will continue to be equally brilliant in the sequel, if their performance is not buried in the overloading crowd of mutant, this will be a promising sequel. The film will be out on May 23, 2014.

Verdict: Promising
