Netflix announced plans to increase their monthly subscription fee by $1 to $2 per month for new customers. Existing subscribers will be able to keep their $7.99 rate for now.

The goal of the price hike is to draw more international customers and to produce more original content, like the highly successful “House Of Cards,” according to Reuters.

The company’s shares rose 7 percent during the trading day on Tuesday based on data from CNN Money

Analyst Alan Gould told Reuters that Netflix is set to gain 50 million global customers. A $1 to $2 price increase would bring the company at least $600 million.

Netflix is currently available in 41 countries and is projected to launch in France and Germany in the later half of 2014
