A Marine posted at a military base shot and killed a colleague inside a guard shack on Tuesday, said a military spokesman.

Law enforcement and emergency personnel tried to revive the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the hospital on the base.

The Marine who fired the shot is in custody and awaiting questioning from Naval Criminal Investigative Services.

The shooting happened less than a week after an incident at Fort Hood in Texas. There, a soldier is accused of firing 35 shots over eight minutes, killing three and wounded 16 others.
