Man Charged After Fake Bomb Threat At Boston Marathon Finish Line

A prankster was charged on several counts that are connected to a bomb scare at the Boston Marathon finish line on Tuesday night. Kevin Edson faces felony charges for using a hoax device and making a false bomb threat, hours after the tributes had ended.

According to The Boston Globe, Edson is also facing misdemeanor charges for disturbing peace and disorderly conduct. 

According to CBS News, Edson was barefoot, wearing blue and yellow face paint and a long black veil on Boylston street. When Edson was stopped by officers, they found a rice cooker in his backpack. Edson was arrested, and the area was evacuated. A source told CBS News that the rice cooker was filled with confetti.

At his arraignment, Edson pled not guilty. According to The Boston Globe, the Boston Municipal Court Judge Michael Coyne set bail at $100,000. Cash.

After hearing that Edson has a history of mental illness, the judge ordered Edson to be sent to Bridgewater State Hospital for evaluation. Especially after Edson told police that his act was "performance art." Edson is a student at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

This year's Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 21. Backpacks and strollers are not permitted.
